Goodness Sakes

When you own the world, baby

It won't mean a thing

The terror you inspire, baby

Worn like a wedding ring

The lights go up and down and out

And slap the face of time

I might just want a bite of you

But it's never to be mine

Forever caught in this prison of thoughts

I just can't  seem to come clean

Why is it I never do as I ought?

For goodness sakes, I don't know what it means

When you understand, baby

All you've got is regret

The horror of our memories

Are a matching set

Life goes on, around and round

And fills the space between

What is lost and what is found

Is it just another dream?

Forever caged in this stage of desire

I just act as though I care

Why is it I can't feel what I inspire?

For goodness sakes, I don't know what it means
